New Pretrial Justice Research RFP

Exciting research opportunity for pretrial practitioners to collaborate with researchers.

Arnold Ventures (AV) announced an exciting new opportunity for pretrial practitioners to collaborate with researchers! This new RFP seeks proposals from researchers and jurisdictions to contribute research and evidence to understand the processes and outcomes of pretrial decision-making.

Information Call

AV will answer questions about the RFP during an optional Zoom call on June 1, 2023, at 1 p.m. ET. RSVP by emailing PretrialRFP@arnoldventures.org.

Learn more about the informational call on page 10 of the RFP.

Letter of Intent

AV understands that RFPs can be overwhelming, so jurisdictions can submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) that AV will use to connect jurisdictions with a researcher or institution to apply. AV cannot guarantee funding, but the LOI process for jurisdictions is less intensive. See page 9 of the RFP for instructions. The deadline to submit an LOI is June 30, 2023.

There are three areas for funding:

  1. Release Decisions, focusing on evaluating the impact of new release decision policies enacted in recent years, the effects of pretrial detention length on various individuals and communities, system outcomes, and the relative costs of release decisions.
  2. Release Conditions, focusing on determining the impact of different release conditions, ascertaining the most effective release conditions, understanding how risk level and supervision intensity influence outcomes, establishing the most effective system responses to failure to appear/re-arrest, and evaluating the relative cost-effectiveness of various release conditions.
  3. Pretrial Services, focusing on identifying and evaluating the effectiveness of various models, ascertaining if specific models are more effective for certain populations, and investigating the outcomes of different supervision intensities and contact types.
