Research to Practice 101

Free training helps stakeholders apply research to pretrial policy and practice.

Advancing Pretrial Policy and Research (APPR) presents a free training on Wednesday, November 10 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET. Join APPR experts as they discuss applying research to pretrial policy and practice.

Registration deadline is Wednesday, October 20.

About the Training

This training will help participants understand how to apply research to pretrial policy. Presenters will review research vocabulary and discuss the potential impact and limitations of research. They will also describe a framework that can help stakeholders apply research to policy within the context of other important considerations, like the law, community input, and racial equity. Participants will review two APPR research summaries—court date notifications and the use of pretrial detention—and discuss in small groups how they might apply this research to local policy and practice.

This training is relevant for all pretrial policymakers and stakeholders, as well as those who are tasked with applying policy in their work.

Deadline to register is Wednesday, October 20.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the training, participants can expect to:

  • Understand how to digest research and effectively use it to advance pretrial policy
  • Consider approaches to applying research to policymaking
  • Learn about research regarding the use of court date notifications and pretrial detention
  • Develop a familiarity with APPR resources
